SAIC-GM-Wuling Automobile, headquartered in Liuzhou, Guangxi, is a joint venture of SAIC, GM and Guangxi Automobile Group. It is a well-known Chinese national auto brand with the slogan "Wuling builds whatever the people need." Dating back to Liuzhou Power Machinery Factory founded in 1958, the company used to make tractors. It started producing microcars in the 1980s. With total sales exceeding 30 million vehicles, it is one of China’s top automakers. Wuling has two badges. Red-logo Wuling vehicles are practical work vehicles for passengers and cargo, affordable and durable. Silver-logo Wuling targets family cars with better interior and craftsmanship. Popular models include Hongguang MINIEV, Wuling Bingo, Wuling Hongguang, Wuling Starlight and Wuling Xingchen. Strengths: low price, spacious cabin, cheap maintenance and widely available spare parts. Weaknesses: older red-logo models have simple interiors, poor sound insulation and stiff suspension, built for practicality rather than luxury. The group also owns Baojun, a budget family car brand. Manufacturing bases are located in Liuzhou, Qingdao, Chongqing, etc. Its service network covers the whole country, even in towns.
